Now those are words that compel me to live up to them. I just learned to say them after years of hiding behind, "I want to be...", "I'm an aspiring...", "I am a writer" but never "I am an author." Well, I am. I have completed a manuscript; not sold but done. And, I truly believe that what we think is what we are so until I start to think like one I will always be aspiring. Time to become.

Be what you want to be in your mind and then you will find that you will attract it into fruition.

I am new at almost everything (except life). I am new to full time writing having been re-organized out of a steady job last December I decided to follow my muse. I had retired from UW-Madison in 2006 but thought I could contribute a bit more with a non-profit health organization. The organization fell on tough times and I fell out of a steady job. It was a blessing, disguised for several months, but a blessing. I finished my novel at the end of February and decided to try my hand at freelancing to help with the cash flow.

Hi everyone! I am new to the group and the site. I wrote a novel...not entirely sure exactly what genre it would be classified in but, it is a novel about a vampire world. I've created species within the vampires with different outlooks on the world around them. I have a synopsis written up also. I would love to hear some feedback if anyone's interested in helping me out. My email is tink83182@hotmail.com, please let me know. Thank you.

Hello all!
I would very much like to meet other authors in this group and on this web site. I look forward to sharing each other's writing and critiques. I have received great feedback and some wonderful advice and websites to visit. I am working on some writing revisions that I would love to share with anyone who is interested, and would love to do the same for you. I enjoy reading just about any genre, including poetry.

I honestly never thought of myself as a writer. I injured my back and during my recuperation sat down at the computer and wrote a book for children that finished quite unlike what I was thinking. I had decided to write something along the line of Aesopish wisdom and ended writing about two wolves and a bear and their travels. I wrote it and re-wrote it and thought I was finished and submitted it to publishers and agents near the Christmas holidays. I received very polite and nice letters in return from 23 or so companies but no one wanted to read more.

Hi,
I'm new to this site and to this group. I've written my first novel and I'm looking for other serious writers to work with on sharing writing for constructive and supportive feedback.

Did you ever wonder how people managed to win a Pulitzer? Now that I have published a book, I thought about that, the coveted Pulitzer, the highest award a writer could win. I figured the book had to be phenomenal to win that award, or at least a high number, maybe even a million or more, must have been sold, for it to be considered for the award. But I was curious to know just how a book gets nominated for the Pulitzer, so I googled it and found the instructions layed out - 1,2,3...

I have had a bad experience with a well known NY publisher and now find myself wondering how many other writers have had the same, or a similar experience, when selling their work for publication.

I supplied my work and signed the contract - payment was to be $50 and two complimentary copies of the book my work appeared in.

A year after publication, I have received no payment, no complimentary copies, and no satisfactory answers from the publisher concerned. However, it has cost me more in terms of the time spent chasing this payment, than the actual value of the contract.
