Find my friends?

Okay, I'm new. :)
When I went to invite a few friends, I discovered two of them are already listed.
However.
Searching by name brings up no results.
Searching by email brings up no results either.

I'm not about to browse through a gazillion users on the off-chance that I might spot a familiar face.

Same thing for authors -- searching for their name brings up nothing.

Considering you want us to connect... how on earth can we, when nothing we search for actually brings up any results?

Is there something I'm missing?

is getting creative.

When you get the message that the user is already a member on the invite page ("The following recipient is already a member:"), you should be able to click on his/her username in that message and view his/her profile. From there, you should be able to add the user as a friend.

You bring up a good point, though. I don't think we could allow searching by email address for privacy reasons, but a search by username we could do. Feel free to email me any ideas you might have about what specifically you'd like to see, but in the meantime, I'll add it to my development list.

Thanks,

Chris

Yeah, but at the same time -- I don't know what their username is.
I managed to find one of them, but it was hit and miss. (Still haven't found the other one. Or I might have, but it won't let me access their page, so I have no idea.)
I didn't see a link on their name on the invite friends page when it told me they already have an account.
Another good one would be passing on friends to others who know them -- for instance, half my critique group has accounts here. How are they supposed to find each other, if they can't search for each other?
I think there should be an option to search for their real name, pen name, or handle.
And also a "Suggest friend", perhaps.

Maybe I'm too used to be able to search by email address on Facebook -- after all, you need to already know their email before you can search for it, so I'm not sure privacy is an issue there.

This is all great feedback. Let me give it some thought and see what I can incorporate.

Thanks!
