literary agents

Okay, so I'm looking for an agent to represent Becoming NADIA, the first in my series. Anyway, I find this site for Writer's Literary Agency, and like a boob I take their front page info for gospel. They say they don;t sell to vanity publishers or POD printers. Okay, that's good. They help nurture long-term relationships with their writers. We'll talk about that later. The site looks impressive, and so I fill in a query on their submission form.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I've had four agents over the past decade and none of them have really panned out to be what I expected. Was I dupped or is that just the way things work in this arena? Before you decide let me tell you a bit about my four previous agents. The first one was a woman who resided in Chicago. She told me that she believed in my totally, but eventually her family needed her more than she could work for me and other authors who had entrusted her to help our writing careers along. The second one was a darling man from Wisconsin, if memeory serves me here.

Well today I found about a hundred different ways to describe my manuscript to people I know won't read it. Literary Agents and Publishers are like beautiful women to ugly blokes. They bat an eye lid and pout a little and the blokes open up their wallets like its the Xmas sale at Harrods. And where does it get you? A lot of broken promises and membership to the post office frequent postage program. Disappointment? Sure. Because like with the beautiful girl you know you don't have much of a chance.
