By all accounts of the BUZZ at the Book Expo America (BEA) in May, reports of the Publishing Industry’s demise is greatly exaggerated. For four frothy days at the NYC Javits Center, BEA showcased a panel of publishing CEO’s, a gaggle of Celebrity Authors (Fergy, Jon Stewart, Barbara Streisand), seminars on Digital Technology and Self-Publishing, and acres of booths featuring everything related to books. As an aspiring novelist, I took a gander to get a feel for the industry and found it: Robust.

I made sure that no research sources were harmed in the making of my first book. The humor genre has no actual formula and comes with no rulebook. I could sit in my underwear and write down random thoughts that roughly fit into a random theme. That’s what attracted me to it in the first place. I figured that since my short-term memory … I forget what I was going to say.

Here are a few ideas to help you make 2010 your best writing year ever…

The first step in becoming a good writer is exposing yourself to as much good writing as you can get your hands on. This means reading as much as you can. Make more time to read at home, but also think about other ways you can get more pages in. If you have a long commute, consider listening to audio books instead of music. Carry a paperback or an ebook reader with you for those long waits in the checkout line or the doctor’s office.

Many book authors decide that they do not need their own book author websites. These authors feel that they can get enough exposure by listing their book on the various online book sites.

Yet, if you are truly interested in giving your book the best online marketing opportunities, you need to have your own book author website.

To begin with, if you use social media networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn to promote your book, you will want to include a URL link that sends people to a dedicated book author website to show that you are a serious book author.

I have been asked to write this article based on material I have posted in forum, those who have read the forum will notice the ‘cut ‘n paste’ bits, but I hope that I have added enough useful bits to make it interesting.

Billionaire Warren Buffet has been the subject of books and articles since the public first became aware his investments made him one of the richest men on earth.
I thought of writing a book about him when I was about to retire from one of his companies: The Buffalo News. I asked my publisher and Buffet’s longtime friend Stan Lipsey, who Buffet had lured from Omaha, if the billionaire would confide in me. He checked with Buffet.
I was told that Buffet had recruited a young, attractive woman financial writer to write an exhaustive book about him and his family. He would not talk to me.

I’m referring to the love affair between writers and paper. Being the argument so debated I wonder where to begin from. In my view the problem rest with reading, not with writing. As of recently I was in New York where I conducted my own investigation asking librarians and the managers of major bookstores (Barnes&Noble, Dalton, the latter is recently gone under) and the first thing that indeed struck me was the unimaginable quantity of leftover books trail in their wake. Less than one per cent of the people read an entire book from page one to the end.

Gay fiction in general is a large and rapidly expanding genre, despite small and sometimes crucial presses having crashed and burned in recent years. However, gay historical fiction's roots are a little muddied between what was actually written at the time, and what has been written subsequently about times past.

The Historical Novel Society defines Historical Fiction: "a novel must have been written at least fifty years after the events described, or have been written by someone who was not alive at the time of those events (who therefore approaches them only by research)."
